US patents are less than a fifth of the world’s total, and there are free international sources, such as the World Intellectual Property Organization’s main “Resources” page, which includes its “WIPO Technology Trends 2021” (Scroll far down to find it under “Analysis and Insight”, just above :”Information Resources” which includes links to statistics and WIPO publications).

The European Patent Office maintains Espacenet, one of the oldest free international patent databases. Its “In Focus” page at has links to major growing technology areas.
