Klamath County, the area where the Shaw Historical Library is located, is rich in history and culture. Located in south-central Oregon, it was named for the Klamath, a Native American tribe living in the area at the time the first European explorers entered the region.
The area boasts multiple parks, natural open spaces like the famous Crater Lake, and vast sections of wilderness.
Lumber industry, railroads, land reclamation, farming and ranching, and the Klamath Tribe (Klamaths, Modocs, Yahooskin) history and culture - all played their part in the development of this special place.
The mission of SHL is to collect, preserve and make accessible to researchers its collections, promoting the rich heritage of the region.
This guide gives but a glimpse into the treasures held by the Library.
