PSY 201: Introduction to Psychology I

Course Objectives

General course objectives:

  •  Gain a basic understanding of psychology (e.g., factual knowledge, methods, principles, generalizations, theories)
  •  Learning to apply course material to improve thinking and problem-solving in careers and everyday life.
  •  Learning to analyze and critically evaluate ideas, arguments, and points of view 

Specific course objectives:

  •  Understand how knowledge of psychology can aid students in personal and professional life
  •  Understand and apply the different perspectives of modern psychology
  •  Understand and apply scientific methods and basic knowledge of psychology to think more critically about current issues, and to critically read reports of empirical findings
  •  Understand and apply the principles of learning in personal and professional life
  •  Improve abilities to attend to thoughts, emotions, body sensations, and stimuli in the present environment.
