Histories of Local Places

  • An Illustrated History of Early Northern Klamath County, Oregon (1989), Edward Gray. A history of northern Klamath County in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.  
  • Merrill Centennial, 1894-1994 (1994), published by the Merrill Centennial Committee. Celebrates the history of Merrill, Oregon, and the surrounding area on the occasion of the town’s centennial.  
  • The Years of Harvest: A History of the Tule Lake Basin, 3rd edition (2002), Stan Turner. The classic history of the Tule Lake Basin, including a large section on the Tule Lake Relocation and Segregation Center.  
  • Crater Lake National Park: A History (2002), Rick Harmon. The first comprehensive popular history of Crater Lake National Park.  
  • History of Rocky Point, Oregon (2002), William J. Cadman and LoEtta A. Cadman. History of Upper Klamath Lake’s communities and how they shaped a rich past and present in tourism, recreation, hunting, trapping, and fishing.  
  • Where Fortune Calls (2007), journal issue published by the Shaw Historical Library. A series of articles examining the development of successful and not-so-successful communities in the Klamath County region.  
  • Janis Kafton Klamath County Collection (1905-2000). The collection is organized by family, location, business, and organization. It is made up of documents, photocopies, newspaper clippings, handwritten notes, audio cassette tapes, card files, sketches, maps, and photographs. Janis Kafton was a Klamath County educator and amateur historian. 
  • Klamath Echoes (1964-1978). A series of books written by a group of volunteers of the Klamath County Historical Society and edited by Devere and Helen Helfrich. The series describe and preserve the history of the Klamath Basin, Southern Oregon and Northern California. The 16 volumes of Klamath Echoes cover Klamath Falls (Linkville), Bonanza, Langell Valley, Merrill, Malin, Keno, Fort Klamath, Applegate Trail, and other areas. 
  • Far Corners: Seldom Seen Places in the Land of Lakes, vols. 1-2. (2020-2021). Two more journal issues, published by the Shaw Historical Library. Include articles on little known places in the area, such as Camps Day and Warner, Blitzen and Catlow Valleys, cities of Hardin, Picard, Mowich, Shevlin, Madeline, Termo, Ravendale and other places.
